A deceptive calm

Portrait de william

In recent weeks, the announcements concerning the adoption of HbbTV standard and everything that revolves around seems to have calmed down a bit.
We had some articles and feedback about implemented experiments (as Salto [fr] service by France TV for example, or more recently, adoption of the standard by Russia).
But overall, not so much.

Does this mean that nothing happens?

Actually, no. Things continue to get away, but we are now entering in a consolidation phase. Consolidation of infrastructure services primarily, not only in France but throughout Europe. And as it is not something very spectacular, there are no publications on this subject. But the teams are working.
For services, the winning duo currently consists of the TV screen and the second screen together. Many experiments in this direction, with the technical constraints of the pairing between these screens and synchronization with the flow, if you want a service attached to the flow and not an OTT service.
The social TV draws everyone forward, at the initiative of viewers who come faster than channels on this point (interesting bottom up experience), who find themselves obliged to follow, and offer programs on which viewers will share, but without the ability to broadcast the stream that needs to be moderated. The viewers' questions are handled by a group of moderators / community managers as in the "C dans l'air" [fr] experiment for example.

But the spread of tweets directly on the TV as proposed by Vidpresso [fr] example is very difficult to implement due to moderation that has to stay in compliance with ethical charter of CSA!
Remains only the consultation of these tweets on the second screen, which is not subject to this regulation. But what about the TV in this case? If everything eventually happen on the second screen, what interest is there to offer something to viewers from primary screen? And how? HbbTV again!
From the moment we will be able to manage a direct interaction between the second and the primary screen of the TV and everything related to the flow, we should begin to have a winning team.
For "classical" broadcasted programs like sports, entertainment, reality show, fiction or series, for programs designed for this purpose, with a transmedia approach that would not use the TV as a passive screen but allow the viewer to also be active with different information on his TV than its neighbor.

And how to manage it?

With the right tools, such as those on which works >gamific.tv course! A platform for managing all of these techniques that will enable broadcasters to manage this interaction at all levels, producers think their productions by incorporating this layer of interactivity from the beginning and viewers to enjoy this new consumption experience.
